Study: Massive Increase in Youth Hospitalized with Suicidal Thoughts
A study in Pediatrics journal documents an alarming increase in teenagers struggling with suicidal thoughts. 81,051 youth visited Illinois hospitals with "suicidal ideation" during a 66-months period ending in June 2021.
Rady Children’s Hospital senior vice president Dr. Nicholas Holmes told CNN, “Over the last nine years, where we would see about anywhere from one to two patients a day that were having a behavioral health crisis, now we’re seeing 20-plus a day.”
